Audiovisual Translation and Its Implications for International Communication

King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Abstract:

The study adopts the descriptive method. It characterizes Audiovisual Translation as the translation of audiovisual content between languages and cultures, encompassing films, television programs, video games, online videos, and educational resources. It states that subtitling, dubbing, voice-over, audio description, and closed captioning are prevalent modalities of audiovisual translation. The research seeks to emphasize AVT’s substantial influence on individuals’ understanding, access to, and interaction with information beyond national borders as media proliferate at an unparalleled pace. The paper highlights the categories of audiovisual translation, including their functions in international communication, the influence of technology on them, and the obstacles they represent for translators.
